When we think of honoring our men and woman who fought, and are currently fighting, for our country, we think of Memorial Day in May and Veterans Day in November. However, many overlook the smaller holidays that each branch celebrates. August 4 is the birthday of the U.S Coast Guard and their national day of recognition. This was created after Congress authorized the construction of ten vessels to enforce tariff and trade laws, prevent smuggling, and protect the collection of federal revenue. The Coast Guard first received its name in 1915 after the merging of Revenue Cutter Service and U.S Life-Saving Service. They are dedicated to protecting the public, the environment and U.S. economic interests in the nation’s waterways, along the coast, on international waters, or in any maritime region as required to support national security. I would like to thank the members of the Coast Guard, past and present.

Asante Library Tour
I had the privilege to take a tour of the progress that is going on with the new Asante Library. Libraries are very important to our community as they offer many resources for individuals and families. This library will be beneficial to the residents in District 1, but will also allow other residents to visit the beautifully designed building as well. I am a big supporter of reading and literacy challenges and like to see the positive growth in the city.
Valley Metro Public Hearing
Valley Metro is planning to expand throughout Maricopa County. The Ride Choice program that focuses on paratransit is hoping to make positive changes that will have a wide spread impact on residents. Public transportation, specifically paratransit, is something that a growing city needs to be dependent on, and I am hopeful about the future changes.
I always enjoy meeting with residents in their neighborhoods. It is my continued goal to visit every HOA in my district on a frequent basis. If I have not yet visited your community, please contact me at 623.222.1300.
