National Safe Digging Month

Southwest Gas logoApril is National Safe Digging Month and it is a great time to remember to put safety first before starting any digging project. Whether a large-scale project or a simple do-it-yourself job in the backyard, safety should always be the top priority. Utility lines that serve the community with vital services such as natural gas, electricity, sewer and water can be buried anywhere. Striking a utility line not only poses a safety risk but can also cause an interruption of service to customers.

Southwest Gas encourages homeowners and contractors to call 811 or go online at Call811.com and click on your state at least two full working days prior to digging to request a utility line locate. You’ll then be connected to the appropriate one-call center for your area. Be safe and always know what’s below before digging!

Economic Development

Last month, I attended a groundbreaking for Quick Quack Car Wash at Litchfield and Waddell Roads. They boast a “green & clean” facility and a car wash that is completed within three minutes. We are happy to see new businesses coming to Surprise and we wish them much success.

Last month we also attended a ribbon cutting for Spencer’s Place at Waddell and Reems Roads. This local shop is not only a great place to get pastries and a cup of coffee but it also provides training and employment for those with mental and cognitive abilities. We appreciate your dedication to making a difference in our community!
